Secretary Hao Honors MBI’s Impact in Life Sciences

At MBI’s 40th Anniversary celebration, Secretary Yvonne Hao delivered a heartfelt speech recognizing MBI’s critical role in advancing the life sciences and biomanufacturing sectors in the state. As the Secretary of Economic Development, Hao emphasized MBI’s long-standing support for startups and the organization’s vision for creating a global biomanufacturing hub. She highlighted the importance of government partnerships with industry and academia to strengthen Massachusetts’s position as a world leader in biotechnology innovation and praises MBI’s economic impact. Over the past 40 years, MBI has helped create an economic impact of over $2.25B, create 1,860 jobs, and foster over 197 startup companies.

MBI is building up Worcester and Central Massachusetts as a global bioindustrial and biomanufacturing hub. Our work in startup incubation, workforce development, and economic development help us grow our region and add to Central Massachusetts’ value proposition for life sciences industry. With the space and resources necessary for companies to grow and as a top 15 life sciences talent cluster, Worcester is the perfect place for biomanufacturing and the life sciences to thrive.
