MBI’s StartUp and ScaleUp Models
The unique StartUp & ScaleUp model at MBI bridges the gap between incubator and commercial market spaces for early-stage, growing companies. MBI’s StartUp space, consisting of 100-500 sf labs, is perfect for founders to launch their companies and test their science. The ScaleUp space offers larger accommodations and private office suites perfect for companies to scale their teams and technology. The recently opened Pilot Biomanufacturing Center is designed to support early-stage clinical manufacturing.
This model frees up space in the incubator for new, promising companies to enter the pipeline while allowing emerging companies to focus on job creation and bringing their products to market in a space designed to support their needs at each stage in the life cycle
MBI’s initial StartUp & ScaleUp projects, which opened in mid-2020 and included 28 lab spaces, were fully occupied within 10 months and have already served over 30 companies that have raised over $200 million and created more than 130 jobs.
The creation of the pilot Biomanufacturing Center is MBI’s newest addition to our ScaleUp model. The Center was specially designed for the continued growth of startup companies in a space that allows for larger lab machinery and equipment like tall bioreactors and portable clean rooms. The lab/office suites also boast flexible casework and drop-down electricity to suit the evolving spatial needs of startups.
